Posted on August 21, 2012

Boston, MA – August 21, 2012 –Charlie – the official mascot of the MBTA – is making the rounds around Boston, promoting the CharlieCard and the MBTA’s new CharlieCard Store at Downtown Crossing.

Sponsored by Mass Bay Credit Union, Charlie will be visiting areas of the city to help promote the T and thank commuters and visitors.

“By making Charlie one of the most ubiquitous figures in Greater Boston, more and more people will experience the benefits of using a CharlieCard,” said Acting MBTA General Manager Jonathan Davis. “In addition to making public transportation easy to use, the CharlieCard offers customers the lowest bus and subway fares.”

Charlie will make his first appearance Wednesday, August 22nd when he visits some of Boston’s famous landmarks.

“We’ve always supported public transportation in the city and the hard working people of the MBTA,” says Mass Bay Credit Union’s CEO John Thomas. “We’re happy to help bring Charlie back to Boston to thank those who use the T. We think that Charlie will be a great asset to the transportation system.”

Charlie will also be on hand Saturday, August 25th from 10 am to 12 pm at an MBTA Customer Appreciation Event on the Concourse at Downtown Crossing where the new CharlieCard Store is located. By consolidating customer services in a convenient and centralized location, (moving operations from the space-constrained Back Bay and Harvard Square offices to the new CharlieCard store) the MBTA can now efficiently serve Reduced Fare customers in a more comfortable atmosphere. Customers seeking a Senior Pass, Transportation Access Pass (TAP), or Blind Access Pass can now obtain the required photo ID in an air-conditioned and fully accessible service center in the concourse of the subway station.
