Winchester Center Commuter Rail Station Repair Plans and Future Improvements

Winchester Center Station is located in the Town of Winchester, Massachusetts, and is approximately fifty to sixty years old. The station platforms, four ramps, walkways, and roof structures were in a state of deteriorating condition due to age and water leakage. An early action repair contract was completed on the Station.

Jacobs Engineering Group was hired to develop a 15 percent Preliminary Design for the overall Winchester Center Station Renovation Project. This report was finalized in December 2011. The MBTA advertised to accept Letters of Intent to advance design from 15 percent through Final Design for the Project and Jacobs Engineering was selected in June 2012. The MBTA and the Town of Winchester is currently engaged in the design process to advance the project. The project seeks to provide two full high level platforms, modification of all ramps and walkways, addition of canopies, signage, lighting, communications and other amenities as necessary to improve passenger comfort, safety and security.  Design is expected to go on through Summer 2015.
