Old Colony Commuter Rail Tie Replacement Project
The MBTA has completed the final phase of work associated with the Old Colony Commuter Rail Project — Surface and Aligning the Middleborough branch. As of May 25, 2012, the work is complete, and all punchlist items have been addressed. There will be no more service interruptions associated with this project.
Completed a year ahead of schedule, the Old Colony Tie Replacement Project involved the replacement of 157,148 concrete ties along all three Old Colony Commuter Rail lines. Crews replaced 64,075 ties on the Middleborough line, 80,465 on the Plymouth/Kingston line, and approximately 13,000 on the Main line. The successful completion of this project will allow service on all branches of the Old Colony Commuter Rail to be restored to normal operating speeds.
