ELEVATOR REPLACEMENTS
ALEWIFE, FOREST HILLS, QUINCY ADAMS, QUINCY CENTER AND RUGGLES STATIONS


On July 24, 2009, the MBTA authorized design services for the elevator replacements at Alewife, Forest Hills, Quincy Adams, Quincy Center and Ruggles Stations.

The design services were suspended in February 2010 because of impending Code changes and for updates to the MBTA Design Standards and Specifications. The design services which resumed in December 2011 will incorporate into the design program the MBTA updates and the revised Code requirements.

Bid documents are scheduled to be completed in the Fall 2012. The construction duration is expected to be 16 months, starting Winter 2013 and completed by Spring 2014. It is presumed that the construction will occur simultaneously at all five Stations.

The Stations will remain open during the construction phase with replacement bus services for customers requiring elevators to access the Orange and Red Line services at the stations.
