Pay

Part-time income

  • $31.47/hour
  • 30 hours/week

See how your pay will increase over your first five years

Paid training

All new hires are paid $31.47/hour for 10 weeks of training.

Sign-on bonus

Up to $7,500

Bonuses are based on creditable service and good standing and paid out in two installments:

  • Receive $4,500 after completing 90 days of service.
  • Receive $3,000 after one year of service.

A Day in the Life of a Heavy Rail Operator

You’ll serve the public by providing safe, reliable, and accessible transportation.

At the MBTA, full-time heavy rail operators work eight-hour shifts. These schedules vary and may start in the morning, afternoon, or evening.
