Exiting Heavy Rail Trains using a Mobile Bridgeplate

Due to gaps between the train and the platform at some stations, some customers may benefit from the use of a mobile bridgeplate that spans the gap between the train and the platform. If you need to use the bridgeplate to exit the train, you will need to seek the assistance of a MBTA staff member. Below is a step-by-step process for exiting a heavy rail train using the bridgeplate.

  • If you feel as though you can wheel off of the train onto the platform without the use of the mobile bridgeplate, feel free to do so. It is not necessary to wait for a MBTA staff member to assist you off of the train.

  • When the train arrives at your destination and the doors open, wait until the bridgeplate is in place before trying to exit.   Once the bridgeplate is in place, wheel/walk onto the platform using the mobile bridgeplate. You can wheel over the mobile bridgeplate facing either forwrd or backwards.
