Changes to Bus Routes 441/442/448/449

Effective September 1, 2019

How This Route is Changing

Routes 448 and 449 are being eliminated, and will be replaced by additional service on Routes 441 and 442. The 441 and 442 stop at most 448 and 449 stops, and provide service to Wonderland for connections to Boston.

Routes 441 and 442 charge a Local Bus fare of ($1.70), so Monthly Local Bus passes and monthly LinkPasses are valid for fare payment.

What You Can Expect

If you take the 448 or 449, you can take the 441 and 442. For service to...

  • Downtown Boston, transfer to the Blue Line at Wonderland
  • Seaport, take the Blue Line to Airport and transfer to the SL3
  • Logan Airport, take the Blue Line to Airport, then take Massport shuttles to Logan
  • Marblehead, transfer to the Blue Line at Wonderland
    • For service toward Marblehead to or from stops between Logan Airport and Wonderland, take Route 450 from your current stop to American Legion Hwy @ Bell Circle, and then walk to Wonderland for Blue Line service

If you take the 441, 442, 448, or 449 to or from...

  • Point of Pines, only some AM peak inbound trips (toward Wonderland) and some PM peak outbound trips (toward Lynn) will stop at the Point of Pines stop off Lynnway.
    • Nearby stops, N Shore Rd @ Tobin Ave and N Shore Rd @ Blanchard Ave will be served by routes 441 and 442
  • Swampscott, trips will not start or end at Vinnin Square or Phillips Beach, instead, use trips to Marblehead, or walk to New Ocean St @ Ocean St for additional trips
  • Lynn, more trips will start and end at New Ocean St @ Ocean St for service to or from Wonderland to meet ridership demand

Why We're Making This Change

By reinvesting resources from the 448 and the 449 into the 441 and the 442, we are able to provide more frequent service along the North Shore between Wonderland and Marblehead.
