Alternative Travel Options During Red Line Closures

There will be multiple Red Line closures in February and March. Travel alternatives during this time include a combination of free accessible shuttle buses and fare-free Commuter Rail options. Accessible vans will also be available during weekdays.

Transit Ambassadors and other MBTA personnel will be available to assist riders throughout the Red Line. Riders should plan for extra travel time during this closure.

Weekend Closure

Saturday, February 24 – Sunday, February 25

No Red Line trains between Harvard and Broadway.

  • Free shuttle buses replace service.  
  • Fare gates are open at Harvard, Downtown Crossing, Haymarket, State Street, and Broadway stations.
  • Commuter Rail is fare-free between Porter Square and North Station.
  • No shuttle stop at Park St. Consider using shuttle stops at Downtown Crossing, State Street, or Haymarket instead

This closure overlaps with the multi-branch Green Line full closure, February 20 - March 8.

Saturday, March 2 – Sunday, March 3

No Red Line trains between Park Street and JFK/UMass.

  • Free shuttle buses replace service.
  • Fare gates are open at Park Street and JFK/UMass.
  • Commuter Rail fare-free between JFK/UMass and South Station.
  • Downtown Crossing shuttle only northbound to Park Street, no southbound stop.

This closure overlaps with the multi-branch Green Line closure, February 20 - March 8.
