Public meeting on Study of Possible Green Line Extension to Mystic Valley Parkway

Meeting Info

Date: November 20, 2017 at 6 PM

Location: Tufts University - Breed Memorial Hall • 51 Winthrop Street • Medford, MA

Attendees: General Public

Event Description

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) and the MBTA invite the public to participate in a public meeting on Monday, November 20, on a study of a possible extension of the Green Line to Mystic Valley Parkway.

This possible future phase of the project would extend the Green Line from its currently planned terminus at College Avenue in Medford to a new location at Mystic Valley Parkway.

The NPC presents a preliminary idea for a one-mile extension of the Green Line along the MBTA Lowell Line commuter rail right of way from the currently planned terminus at College Avenue in Medford to Mystic Valley Parkway (Route 16) in Medford and Somerville. The College Avenue to Mystic Valley Parkway segment was part of the Preferred Alternative for the GLX project as detailed in the Draft Environmental Impact Report (2009). However, due to fiscal constraints, this segment was deferred to a future phase.

This future possible project is not part of the Green Line Extension for which the MBTA will soon be selecting a contractor. This possible future phase would be built at a later date if appropriate approvals and financing are received.

In order to begin the design and environmental review, the MBTA has filed a Notice of Project Change (NPC) for this possible future extension with the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA). The NPC was noticed in the November 8, 2017, edition of the Environmental Monitor. The purpose of this document is to begin the environmental review process that would be required if the MBTA choses to move forward with this potential future phase. The document is available for public review on the Green Line Extension website.
