Charlie Service Center

storm service As of August 20, 2024, the Charlie Service Center is temporarily unable to transfer value from tappable CharlieTickets. Transfers from CharlieCards and older CharlieTickets with a magnetic stripe are still available.


You can visit the Charlie Service Center to:

  • Buy passes for any mode
  • Replace a damaged or expired CharlieCard
  • Request a Senior CharlieCard, Transportation Access Pass (TAP), or Blind Access Pass
  • Process a name change on a Senior CharlieCard, Transportation Access Pass (TAP), or Blind Access Pass with a valid ID
  • Add credit to a RIDE account
  • Connect reduced fare benefits to a contactless payment method

Charlie Service Center Location

The Charlie Service Center is located at 296 Washington St, between Milk St and Water St. The center is near the State Street T Station and Downtown Crossing and is fully accessible. The entrance, waiting area, and service area are at ground level, and there is a ramp inside that provides access to the restrooms.

Riders can visit the Charlie Service Center to:

  • Request a reduced fare CharlieCard
  • Replace a lost, expired, or damaged card
  • Make deposits to RIDE accounts
  • Connect reduced fare benefits to a contactless payment method

Apply for a Senior, TAP, or Blind Access CharlieCard Online

Eligible riders can apply for a Senior, TAP, or Blind Access CharlieCard online.

Senior CharlieCard

People 65 and older are eligible for reduced MBTA fares with a Senior CharlieCard.

Transportation Access Pass (TAP) CharlieCard

People with disabilities and Medicare cardholders are eligible for reduced MBTA fares with a Transportation Access Pass (TAP) CharlieCard.

Blind Access CharlieCard

People who are legally blind, as well as an accompanying guide, ride all MBTA services for free with a Blind Access CharlieCard.

Note: The Charlie Service Center will close at 2 PM on New Year's Eve (Observed) and Christmas Eve (Observed).
