MBTA TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL SUBWAY & BUS SERVICE FOR ST. PATRICK’S DAY PARADE

Posted on March 13, 2008

Today, MBTA General Manager Daniel A. Grabauskas announced a schedule for extra service to support the St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Sunday, March 16th.  Extra Red Line trains will be added to the normal Sunday schedule to carry heavier than normal ridership expected to be traveling to South Boston for the parade.

The MBTA is prepared to provide extra trains, and additional personnel to help ensure a smooth flow, especially at key Red Line locations like Broadway and Andrew Stations in South Boston.  Extra MBTA Police will patrol the system throughout the day particularly during the parade to assist with crowd control and safety.

“Customers are urged to take advantage of the most convenient, hassle free mode of travel to the parade – public transportation,” said MBTA General Manager Daniel A. Grabauskas.   “With the extra service, and personnel on hand to assist customers, taking the T is the best choice.”

Eight MBTA bus routes are affected by the parade, including two routes halted for its duration.  Passengers may want to make alternate arrangements, or travel earlier in the day if they must use these buses.
