Mobility Integration
The MBTA’s 2025 Mobility Integration Plan will guide delivery of multimodal transportation, including increasing connectivity between its services, building partnerships with other mobility providers across the region, and delivering a more seamless travel experience for riders.
The plan includes recommendations to improve physical, digital, service, and fare connections. Focus on connectivity is critical because:
- Many trips using the MBTA involve transfers between different services
- Most heavy and light rail stations and more than 60% of Regional Rail stations connect to another MBTA mode
- MBTA service links to other transit operators in numerous places across our network
A Roadmap for Connectivity
Though many connections within the MBTA system and other services exist today, the T has not previously had a framework for thinking holistically about how, when, and why to build connections. The Mobility Integration Plan establishes that framework and will guide the MBTA's response to integration opportunities, pilots and partnerships.
The Mobility Integration Plan aligns with the MBTA Strategic Plan and Full T Ahead service priorities. It organizes recommendations into four categories, focusing on specific actions and on building the foundation for an MBTA that can deliver truly multimodal travel.
The MBTA has already begun delivering on early action items, including:
- Partnering with MassDOT to develop a comprehensive map of transit service across the Commonwealth
- Coordinating Regional Rail schedules with Regional Transit Authorities (RTAs) so they can adjust bus schedules to meet trains
- Modernizing Pedal & Park infrastructure across the system using a grant from the Boston Region MPO
