From December 1, 2020, to May 31, 2021, the MBTA will offer reduced Commuter Rail fare options to eligible Brockton residents. Riders will be able to take the Middleborough/Lakeville Line from Brockton (Campello, Brockton, and Montello) to Boston for $2.40 per trip, the same price as the Zone 1A or subway fare.

The program aims to reduce crowding on Brockton Area Transit (BAT) bus service to Boston and allow for social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic.

How to Enroll in the Program

Participation will be limited to the first 250 eligible Brockton residents. To enroll, you’ll need to:

  • Complete the application form online or in-person at the BAT Center.
  • Upload a photo of proof of Brockton residency (e.g., driver’s license, state ID, utility/phone bill, or pay stub). Photos, screenshots, or scanned images are accepted as long as they are in JPEG, PNG, GIF, or PDF format and are 25MB or less.
  • Complete a survey about your current transit usage as part of the application form, as well as any future surveys to assess how the program is working.

Your application will be processed within 48 hours and you will be notified of your eligibility via email or phone.

Once accepted, you will receive an invitation via email to download the BusPlus app, which you will use to prove enrollment to conductors when riding the Commuter Rail. A physical card will also be available for riders without a smartphone or email.

Paying Your Fare

Riders enrolled in the program will pay the Zone 1A fare for their trip, rather than the Zone 4 or Zone 5 fare at Brockton stations.

Pay $2.40 for a Zone 1A single-ride ticket (normally $8.75 or $9.75). One-way tickets do not include transfers to other modes.

Monthly passes
