See Orange Line Work We Completed October 11 – 13

Updated on October 18, 2019

A crew works on track replacement at Downtown Crossing during the October 11 - 13, 2019, weekend shutdown.

During 6 Orange Line weekend shutdowns, we close a section of track from Tufts to Sullivan so crews can bring vehicles and equipment into the central subway tunnel.

These service shutdowns allow our crews to complete work on 2 projects simultaneously—Orange Line Maintenance and Station Brightening—without requiring major long-term service closures. We’re also able to complete this work 11 months earlier than planned.

We thank you for your patience during these closures.

Weekend 2: What We Completed

During the second weekend shutdown, our crews replaced 380 feet of Orange Line track on the southbound side at Downtown Crossing and also replaced the flooring on 2 elevators there.

We also:

  • Painted track and platform areas on State’s northbound side
  • Cleaned platform walls, ceilings, and floors on Haymarket’s northbound side
  • Repaired leaks between Haymarket and North Station
