See Red Line Work We Completed November 22 – 24

During 4 Red Line weekend shutdowns, we closed sections of track to work on track replacement and station improvements. These closures allowed us to complete work at Park Street 4 months earlier than planned and at Downtown Crossing 11 months earlier than planned.
This project, in conjunction with slab replacements we’re working on in 2020, will keep the tracks in a state of good repair and will support the new Red Line vehicles coming into service.

As part of our $9.6 billion, 5-year capital investment plan, we're renovating stations, modernizing fare collection systems, upgrading services for our buses, subways, and ferries, and improving the accessibility of the entire system.
Weekend 2: What We Completed
During the second weekend shutdown, our crews replaced 480 feet of track and 460 feet of third rail on Downtown Crossing’s southbound side.
We also:
- Installed new tactile warning strips on Downtown Crossing’s northbound platform and Park Street’s southbound platform.
- Filled 2 ceiling voids in Downtown Crossing’s Alewife passage and removed flooring to prepare for next weekend’s work
- Removed old phone booths and repaired stair leaks at South Station
