See Red Line Work We Completed November 22 – 24

Updated on November 27, 2019

Crew members lay track on the southbound side of Downtown Crossing during the November 22 – 24 weekend shutdown

During 4 Red Line weekend shutdowns, we closed sections of track to work on track replacement and station improvements. These closures allowed us to complete work at Park Street 4 months earlier than planned and at Downtown Crossing 11 months earlier than planned.

This project, in conjunction with slab replacements we’re working on in 2020, will keep the tracks in a state of good repair and will support the new Red Line vehicles coming into service.

We thank you for your patience during these closures.

  • Filled 2 ceiling voids in Downtown Crossing’s Alewife passage and removed flooring to prepare for next weekend’s work
  • Removed old phone booths and repaired stair leaks at South Station
