Ruggles Station Improvements Phase I 100% Complete

Updated on December 23, 2021

A passenger exits elevator 849 onto the platform between tracks 1 and 3 at Ruggles station. This elevator takes riders from the lobby to the Commuter Rail tracks, which are shown to the left and right of the elevator.

In December 2021, we replaced two elevators in Ruggles station: elevator 848 to the lower busway, and elevator 849, which links the station’s lobby with the Commuter Rail platform serving tracks 1 and 3. Now that we've completed the final elevator improvements, Phase I of the Ruggles Station Improvements project is complete.

What We Accomplished

We upgraded or replaced five elevators at Ruggles station:

  • Lower busway (elevator 728)
  • Lower busway (elevator 848)
  • Commuter Rail (elevator 849)
  • Orange Line (elevator 850)
  • Forsyth Street (elevator 851)

As part of this project, we also built a new Commuter Rail platform, which opened in April 2021.

These improvements make it easier for riders to transfer between lines and improve accessibility at Ruggles station.
