Alternative Travel Options During May and June Orange Line and Commuter Rail Closures

There will be overlapping Orange Line and Commuter Rail closures from May through June.

During the closures, we'll:

Transit Ambassadors and other MBTA personnel will be available to assist riders. We recommend planning for extra travel time.

May 20 – Summer 2024: Haverhill Line Commuter Rail on Weekday Construction Schedule

Alternative Service

commuter rail The Haverhill Line will operate with limited service on weekdays from May 20 through summer 2024.

  • There will be no inbound service to North Wilmington.
  • Riders commuting via the Haverhill Line will be rerouted via the Wildcat Line on weekdays 8 AM to 3 PM.
  • Riders may take the 137 bus route between Reading and Oak Grove. This route will be free.

June 22 – 23: Shuttles Replace Service Between Oak Grove and North Station

Alternative Service

Riders who are commuting downtown are strongly encouraged to use the Commuter Rail on the Haverhill Line during this closure.

orange line Orange Line: No trains between Oak Grove and North Station.

  • Shuttles are available between Oak Grove and North Station June 22 – 23.
  • Express shuttle is available between Oak Grove, Malden Center, and North Station.
  • The Haverhill Line will be free between Oak Grove, Malden, and North Station.
  • Fare gates will remain open at North Station from June 22 to June 30 to ensure riders do not pay additional fare.

June 24 – 30: Shuttles Replace Service Between Wellington and North Station
