Public Meeting for Weekend PTC Work on Needham Line
The MBTA has announced that a public meeting has been scheduled on Thursday, August 24, at Needham Town Hall regarding Positive Train Control (PTC) installation taking place on the Needham Commuter Rail Line beginning on Saturday, September 2.
PTC is a federally mandated, safety control system that prevents train-on-train collisions and human error. From September 2 through November 18, there will be no weekend Needham Line train service while PTC is installed. Customers are instead advised to connect to other MBTA services at Needham Line stations:
- From Needham Heights, Needham Center, and Needham Junction, the Route 59 bus service connects to Newton Highlands on the Green Line D Branch and to Watertown Square.
- From West Roxbury, Highland, Bellevue, and Roslindale Village, Bus Routes 35, 36, and 37 connect to and from Forest Hills on the Orange Line, which also serves Ruggles and Back Bay.
- Customers who typically board at Hersey Station are encouraged to travel to Needham Junction or West Roxbury Stations instead as there are no direct connecting MBTA services at Hersey.
This meeting is accessible to people with disabilities and those with limited English proficiency. For more information or to request reasonable accommodations and/or language services, please contact Katy Zazzera at 857.368.8986 or by email at email@example.com. Requests should be made at least ten business days prior to the meeting.
