Popular Commuter Rail $10 Weekend Pass Expanded to Include Federal Holidays

Posted on May 23, 2023

$10 weekend passes accepted on all three days of federal holiday weekends.

Midweek Holidays are eligible for special $10 Holiday Pass.

The MBTA and Keolis Commuter Services (Keolis), the agency’s operating partner for Commuter Rail, today announced a six-month pilot program which will expand the $10 Weekend Commuter Rail Pass to include federal holidays. Starting on Memorial Day weekend, $10 weekend passes will be accepted for trips on all three days of federal holiday weekends. For federal holidays that are observed mid-week, passengers will now be able to purchase a $10 Holiday Pass for that day. $10 weekend passes for Memorial Day weekend are now available for purchase at ticket offices, on board trains, or on the mTicket app. Visit MBTA.com/WeekendRail for a full list of holidays and more information.

“We are pleased the public will have even more opportunities to travel at a discount on the MBTA’s commuter rail system on weekends and federal holidays because of the expansion of the $10 Weekend pass,” said Transportation Secretary and CEO Gina Fiandaca. “The pass is a great way to introduce people unfamiliar with commuter rail to how convenient and enjoyable it is to travel by public transportation whether they’re taking a trip to points of interest, heading to an event, or traveling just for the sake of exploring what other areas have to offer for recreation, restaurants, and culture.”

“The Commuter Rail reaches many recreational areas throughout the Commonwealth, and expanding the $10 Weekend Pass to include federal holidays allows more riders the opportunity to choose Commuter Rail for their travels during three-day weekends,” said MBTA General Manager and CEO Phillip Eng. “We hope riders will consider taking the Commuter Rail to their family gatherings and other celebratory activities during the upcoming Memorial Day weekend, and we thank our partners at Keolis for continuing to improve the customer experience by piloting this expansion.”

“The $10 Weekend pass makes it more affordable to visit the people and places across the Commuter Rail network on the weekend and we are excited to expand this program to include federal holidays,” said Abdellah Chajai, CEO of Keolis Commuter Services and General Manager of the MBTA Commuter Rail. “From beaches and museums to hiking trails and visits with friends and family, the Commuter Rail is a reliable and greener way to get where you want to go.”
