Colleges and Universities: Help Your Students Save
The T is working with colleges and universities to provide 11% discounts on MBTA passes for students through the Semester Pass Program. Depending on the type purchased, prepaid passes offer unlimited travel by bus, subway, Commuter Rail, and/or ferry for the whole semester.
Degree-granting colleges and universities with full-time course loads, and that are near MBTA transit lines, can offer the program.

Frequently Asked Questions
For Administrators
Take the T
If it’s been a while since you’ve taken the T, you may notice some changes on your first trip back—we've updated service schedules to reflect new travel patterns, introduced more flexible fare passes, and enhanced cleaning protocols throughout the system.
Administrators submit a single order for all students and payment to the T on the Semester Pass Program website by the 15th of the month preceding the semester start. Once an ACH or Paymode payment is received, the order is fulfilled by the 27th day of the month preceding the semester start, and colleges distribute passes to students. All cards must be confirmed by the first Friday of the benefit month.

No. The semester program is a prepaid program. Exchanges and returns are not allowed.
Schools can choose to offer the program to full- and part-time students.
No, the Semester Pass Program is for students only. But faculty and staff could be eligible for Perq for Work, the MBTA’s employer transit program.
CharlieCards are provided for bus and subway passes. They are distributed once each semester and activated for the entire semester. CharlieTickets are provided for Commuter Rail and ferry monthly passes. College administrators must distribute CharlieTickets to participating students each month.
Colleges may select 1 super-user and as many administrators as needed.
- The super-user can perform any function on the site, including changing financial information, changing billing or shipping address information, or creating accounts for other staff.
- Administrators, assigned by the super-user, can place or make modifications to an order and register new students, but cannot change banking or billing/shipping information.
All new CharlieCards must be confirmed upon receipt: Under CharlieCard Management, select “Confirm Cards.” Once all new CharlieCards are confirmed, you can begin assigning them to students by selecting “Activate Cards.” CharlieTickets can be handed out to students upon receipt.
Orders cannot be modified after the 15th of the month preceding the semester start.
Report the card as lost or stolen through the Semester Pass Program website, which will notify customer service to ship a replacement card.
Yes. You can upload spreadsheets or text files in your account area, or email the file to PassProgram@mbta.com. Please include administrator contact information in your email.
If your school has uploaded the student roster into the Semester Pass Program website, you can view a roster of assigned cards and search for specific students in “CharlieCard Management.”
If you receive a ticket that was not ordered, report it to CharlieCard Customer Service at 1-888-844-0355 as soon as possible.
Under “Review Current Order,” select “Order History” to the left under the menu options.
All lost or damaged CharlieCards, for bus and subway passes, must be reported through the Semester Pass Program website. Select “CharlieCard Management,” and then “Report Lost/Damaged Card.” Enter the lost card’s serial number and select “Replace CharlieCard.” You will receive a replacement CharlieCard via UPS within 2 business days. There are no replacements for Commuter Rail or ferry passes.
Only the listed super-user may change the shipping address/payment form. Under “Account Management,” select “Billing/Shipping” to edit your school’s address. Please note that any change of address should be done before 11:59 PM EST on the 15th of the month preceding the semester start.
