Green Line Intersection Upgrades (2019)

A Green Line train passes over a newly completed intersection upgrade

In 2019, we replaced sections of track where the rail crosses the road and pedestrians, bicyclists, and drivers pass over the tracks.

Uneven pavement was replaced with a new, smooth layer. Accessible ramps were installed in several sidewalk locations.

  • Contract awarded: March 2019
  • Projected completion: Substantial completion November 2019; final completion April 2020
  • Budget: $21,000,001
  • Status: 100% construction complete

As part of the Green Line Transformation (GLT), this project meets the following goals:

  • Access: New pedestrian pathways at 18 stations
  • Safety and resiliency: New rail and pavement at 30 crossings to mitigate risk of service interruptions due to track conditions
  • Customer experience: Safer pedestrian, vehicle, and bicycle crossings

Why We Did This Work

This project brought more Green Line intersection tracks into a State of Good Repair.

Where We Did This Work

The work was primarily on the Green Line B and C. We also replaced a section on the Mattapan Line.

This project is one of many we're working on to ensure twice as many passengers have access to a safer, more comfortable, and more reliable Green Line by 2030.
