Transit-Oriented Development at Haymarket
The Government Center Garage is being demolished to allow construction of a projected 36-month transit-oriented development (TOD) project underway at Haymarket station. Demolition and construction have also temporarily closed the Haymarket Busway, requiring the relocation of bus stops at Haymarket. The mixed-use construction project is being undertaken by the HYM Investment Group, LLC, and is not related to the MBTA’s work at Haymarket.
Haymarket Subway Diversions
During select weekends, Green Line and Orange Line trains will not travel in the tunnels underneath the garage and service will be impacted. Additional dates may be added, please check back here for details.

Despite the ongoing TOD-related work, subway access will remain unchanged at Haymarket, except during temporary closures such as those described above. At other times, riders can access the stairway, escalators, and elevators to subway platforms as usual.
Haymarket Busway Closure
In June 2021, the Haymarket busway closed to allow the TOD project to move forward, and its bus stops were relocated. Buses will return to the new busway on the MBTA Haymarket site when the project is completed.
New Bus Stop Locations
Haymarket bus stops have moved to two new locations—three routes have stops on Surface Road, and four on Congress Street. Signs at Haymarket guide riders to the new locations, and MBTA staff are available at the station to help.
