CharlieCards are reusable, durable cards that can be used for the Bus and Subway to purchase Stored Value at a discounted fare, or purchase One-Day, 7-Day, or Monthly Passes at the standard fare.

Where to Get a CharlieCard

You can get a free, blank CharlieCard from an MBTA Customer Service Agent working at the Bus and Subway stations listed below.

Retail Sales Locations

You can get blank CharlieCards and load any amount of money for One Way fares or a pass (1-Day, 7-Day, Monthly) at stores located throughout the Greater Boston and Providence areas.

CharlieCard Store

The CharlieCard store is open to all MBTA riders for CharlieCard services and is conveniently located at the Downtown Crossing Station in the underground concourse between the Red and Orange lines.

Services Available

  • Replace damaged or expired CharlieCard
  • Request Senior CharlieCard, Transport Access Pass, or Blind Access Pass
  • Add credit to RIDE account

Replacing CharlieCards

Lost, Stolen, or Damaged

Lost, stolen, or damaged CharlieCards can only be replaced if they have already been registered with a MyCharlie account. If you have a MyCharlie account, login and request a replacement card to be mailed to you or call 1-888-844-0355.


Expired CharlieCards (including Senior and TAP CharlieCards) can be replaced at the CharlieCard Store located in Downtown Crossing. An agent will transfer any remaining balance on an expired CharlieCard to a new card.

If you have an expired Senior or TAP CharlieCard, you may also send it in the mail in order to get a new one mailed back to you. Please send expired cards to:

Online CharlieCard Services

Bus and Subway riders can create a MyCharlie account to set up recurring monthly pass purchases and have protection against loss, theft, or damage to their CharlieCard. Those who do not want a MyCharlie can reload their CharlieCard with up to $50. Commuter Rail, Boat, and Express Bus riders can order monthly passes online.
