MBTA Update on Green Line Speed Restriction Work

The MBTA today announced that the Green Line corridor’s line-wide speed restrictions will remain in place at least through the end of service today. The MBTA continues to prioritize safety and at this time cannot lift the Green Line line-wide speed restrictions as further evaluation and validation of specific locations are needed.

The MBTA has identified 30 speed limit signs that need to be relocated on the Green Line, and that work is taking place today. After that work is completed, the MBTA will re-run test trains on the entire line. The MBTA apologizes for the continued disruption to service for its riders.

The MBTA has taken proactive efforts to manage ridership and transit safety for the St. Patrick’s Day parade.

The MBTA’s Transit Navigation Crew, which is an employee-led volunteer group, will be throughout the system alongside Transit Ambassadors and Customer Service Agents to help riders navigate the system tomorrow. Between 10:30 AM and 6 PM, a free shuttle will provide service between South Station and South Boston.

Parade goers should plan for longer headways and additional travel time on the Red, Orange, Blue, Green, and Mattapan lines. Riders should also preload CharlieCards/CharlieTickets to avoid lines at fare vending machines in stations.
