Test Trains Now Running on the Green Line Extension

On December 3, the first Green Line Extension (GLX) test train rolled across the newly constructed Lechmere Viaduct on the Union Square Branch. The train traveled to the new Union Square and Lechmere stations.

Preparing to Open in 2022

Last summer, three test train cars were trucked from the Riverside Carhouse in Newton to the new vehicle maintenance facility in Somerville to prepare for the final testing phase. Watch their journey in the video below.

Trolley Testing Continues

During the testing phase, you may see test trains running to Union Square and Lechmere before passenger service begins on the Union Square Branch in spring 2022. The Medford Branch will open later in 2022. 

The next step in the process will be training operators on the new lines.
