Newton Commuter Rail Stations Accessibility Improvements

We’re planning accessibility upgrades at 3 Commuter Rail stations in Newton on the Worcester Line that are in disrepair and not accessible to people with disabilities. The project is currently at 30% design.
Currently, the existing low-level platforms on Track 2 can only be accessed via stairways at Auburndale, West Newton, and Newtonville stations.
Building a Better T
As part of our $9.6 billion, 5-year capital investment plan, we're renovating stations, modernizing fare collection systems, upgrading services for our buses, subways, and ferries, and improving the accessibility of the entire system.
Project Features
This project will address the MBTA’s reliability and modernization needs at each station, including track and signal upgrades.
Improvements include two fully accessible, high-level side platforms at each station and accessible pathways to each platform from the adjacent sidewalk network and station parking areas.
