See Orange Line Work We Completed November 1 – 3
Updated on November 7, 2019
During 6 Orange Line weekend shutdowns, we close a section of track from Tufts to Sullivan so crews can bring vehicles and equipment into the central subway tunnel.
These service shutdowns allow our crews to complete work on 2 projects simultaneously—Orange Line Maintenance and Station Brightening—without requiring major long-term service closures. We’re also able to complete this work 11 months earlier than planned.
We thank you for your patience during these closures.
Building a Better T
As part of our $9.6 billion, 5-year capital investment plan, we're renovating stations, modernizing fare collection systems, upgrading services for our buses, subways, and ferries, and improving the accessibility of the entire system.
Weekend 5: What We Completed
During the fifth weekend shutdown, our crews replaced 427 feet of track on Haymarket’s southbound side and installed new wayfinding signs on both sides of the platform.
We also:
- Cleaned entrance areas on State’s northbound and southbound sides
- Installed new tactile warning strips on Downtown Crossing’s northbound side
- Painted track and platform walls and ceilings on Chinatown’s northbound side
- Primed the ceiling over the track area on Chinatown’s southbound side
- Repaired wall and floor tiles at Chinatown
