Commercial Street Bridge Detoured During Bridge Work May 14 – 16

We’re replacing the bridge that carries the Newburyport/Rockport Line over Commercial Street in Lynn between River Works and Lynn stations.

What to Expect During This Work

Starting Monday, May 9:

Foundation drilling at track level

Saturday, Monday 14 – Monday, May 16:

Crews will construct the bridge superstructure

  • Commercial Street closed, full detour required

Starting Sunday, May 15:

Night shift construction

  • Crews work 9 PM – 5 AM, Sunday – Thursday for four weeks
  • Lane shift on Commercial Street required

Traffic Detour May 14 – 16

Detour route signs will be in place over the weekend, but we encourage drivers to seek alternate routes to avoid delays.

Before major construction activities, we’ll install electronic message signs that will display the most up-to-date information.
