Winchester Center Station Construction Prep Begins March 28

We closed Winchester Center station on the Commuter Rail’s Lowell Line in 2021 for necessary repairs and accessibility upgrades. We've demolished the old Winchester Center station and are preparing for the construction of the new station. On-site preparation will begin on March 28, 2022.
What to Expect as We Prepare for Construction
Preparation for construction will include the following:
- Surveying the area
- Installing fencing around the work site
- Placing vibration monitors
- Setting up pest management systems
Rider impacts
Winchester Center station is closed until the completion of construction. Because trains are not be stopping at the station, riders should consider Wedgemere as an alternative.

As part of our $9.6 billion, 5-year capital investment plan, we're renovating stations, modernizing fare collection systems, upgrading services for our buses, subways, and ferries, and improving the accessibility of the entire system.
Neighborhood impacts
Parking changes
In April 2022, all parking directly adjacent to the station and at Laraway Road will be removed. These parking areas will be unavailable throughout the duration of construction.
Summer construction noise
We expect to begin noticeable construction activity in the summer of 2022. We will post construction advisories before any significant work. Neighbors should expect increased noise and periods of vibration from heavy equipment and machinery during the early phases of work.
