Service Alerts For Red Line Close
  • Shuttle (Upcoming)
    Shuttle buses replace Red Line service between North Quincy & Braintree stations on Sunday - Thursday from approximately 9:00 pm through the end of service starting Monday, August 20.

    These evening shuttles are scheduled to occur every Sunday through Thursday nights beginning August 20 through September 27. This is to allow for work at both Wollaston and Quincy Center stations. The work for Sunday, August 19 has been cancelled. Sunday work will begin the next week.
    All shuttle bus stops are accessible for persons with disabilities.
    Regularly scheduled service will resume at the start of service the following day.

    North Quincy
    Quincy Center
    Quincy Adams
    Braintree

  • Station Closure (Ongoing)
    Wollaston Station has closed for renovation. Free bus shuttles run from Wollaston to North Quincy and Quincy Center.

    Wollaston is being transformed into a modern, fully accessible facility, making the entirety of the Red Line 100% accessible.
    Trains bypass Wollaston station traveling between North Quincy and Quincy Center. Shuttle buses run between North Quincy, Wollaston, and Quincy Center stations with the same frequency as the Red Line. Shuttle bus stops are fully accessible.
    423 parking spaces are available at Wollaston Station during the closure. Follow @MBTA for updates.

    North Quincy Parking Notice: Due to construction, the Hancock Street entrance to the easterly parking lot is temporarily closed to vehicles through Monday, August 20.

    Please enter the parking lot through the temporary entrance at the northern end of the lot.

    Alewife Garage is open for daytime parking. However, there will be no overnight parking, please remove your vehicle by 1:00 AM. Visit mbta.com/alewife for more info.

    To facilitate nightly inspections of Alewife Garage and allow for any needed repairs, there will be no overnight parking at this facility until further notice. The garage will reopen each morning at 5:00 AM.
    The garage remains safe for customer use & the MBTA is ensuring that any concerns that arise during the inspections are addressed immediately. We are currently making arrangements to make alternative overnight parking available for customers who need it & will provide details as soon as we can.
    Please remove your car before 1:00 AM each night. Cars left overnight could interfere with planned work, & may be towed within the garage. Crews will make every effort to avoid towing cars out of the garage, but we can't guarantee that they won't be removed from the garage if work requires.

  • Station Issue (Ongoing)
    The pedestrian bridge at the Braintree Parking Garage will be closed through Summer 2020 due to construction.

    For access to Braintree Station during this closure, travel down to the first floor and use the pedestrian crosswalk to enter the station at the street level.
    This closure is due to the South Shore Parking Garages Improvements and Renovations Project. The pedestrian bridge will be replaced by a new garage lobby featuring elevators and stairwells.

    The pedestrian walkway near Kendall/MIT Station (inbound) is closed until further notice due to MIT construction.

    Access to the Kendall/MIT Station will remain open and accessible on the Main Street side of the station throughout this construction.
    The pedestrian plaza between Carleton Street and Main Street in Kendall Square will be closed due to the construction of an underground garage.
    Customers are encouraged to utilize alternative paths to/from the station using the paths on Ames Street, Dock Street, or Wadsworth Street.

    Shuttle buses replace Orange Line service between Back Bay and Ruggles on the weekend of August 25-26 due to track maintenance work.

    Due to track work, buses will replace Orange Line trains between Back Bay and Ruggles in both directions from the start of service until the end of service on the following weekend:
    Saturday, August 25 - Sunday, August 26
    All shuttle bus stops are accessible to persons with disabilities. Please allow additional time for your commute.
    Regular Orange Line train service will resume at the start of service each following Monday.

    After crossing Causeway St, pedestrians will use a protected walkway along the east side of Legends Way, directly abutting Portal Park. The walkway will include a barrier and kick-plate for blind and low vision passengers.
    As an alternative, customers may consider utilizing the west exit from North Station Commuter Rail due to congestion.

    Shuttle buses replacing Mattapan Trolley service from Saturday, September 1, through Saturday, September 8, due to the demolition of the former Hendries building.

    Bus shuttles will be replacing service in both directions between Ashmont and Mattapan. Van shuttles will service Capen St, Valley Rd, and Central Ave, due to narrow roads in the area. Transfer between bus and van shuttles is available at Central Ave Station.
    All buses and vans are accessible for persons with disabilities.
