Small Business Enterprise (SBE) Program

The Small Business Enterprise (SBE) Program promotes business opportunities for small business enterprises, as defined by the federal Small Business Administration (SBA). The SBE Program is designed to create and sustain opportunities for small businesses to participate in capital construction projects at the MBTA, as well as stimulate the Massachusetts economy by providing sustained revenue opportunities to local small businesses.
About the SBE Program
The MBTA’s SBE Program was established to create and sustain opportunities for small businesses to participate in capital construction projects at the MBTA. The program aims to reduce barriers to entry and establish minimum participation goals.
How It Works
The MBTA identifies small contracting opportunities with enough qualified SBEs to ensure a competitive environment. Those prequalified SBEs are eligible to bid on the selected contracts, which creates a level playing field for small contractors. Each participant must be certified as an SBE by the federal Small Business Administration (SBA) and prequalified with the MBTA.
Once certified and registered as an SBE with the MBTA, a business benefits from the following:
- Opportunities to be a prime vendor on contracts
- Invitations to business forums and networking events
