The Application Process

1. Apply for the bus operator position

Applying online is the quickest and easiest way:

2. Request your driving record

An unattested public driving record is required to complete your application.

You can grant permission for the MBTA to request your driving record in your application, or you can submit a request via the Massachusetts RMV and email your driving record to PTO@mbta.com. Please note that if the MBTA requests your driving record for you, it will bypass the payment required by the RMV should you request the record yourself.

As of September 2022, a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is no longer required to apply for a Bus Operator position. The MBTA will cover the cost of obtaining a CDL as part of its training, an over $10,000 value.
