Where to Buy MBTA Tickets and Passes

Fare Vending Machines

Fare vending machines dispense new CharlieTickets and allow you to add value to CharlieTickets or CharlieCards you already have. 

You can use fare vending machines to:

  • Buy 1-day, 7-day, and monthly bus and subway passes
  • Buy single-ride, round trip, and monthly Commuter Rail passes (up to Zone 8)*
  • Buy single-ride and monthly ferry passes
  • Buy reduced fare tickets and passes
  • Load cash value onto any CharlieCard or CharlieTicket
  • Renew your monthly pass for the bus, subway, ferry, and Commuter Rail (up to Zone 8)*   

*Interzone tickets and passes are not available.

You can find fare vending machines at:

  • All Red, Orange, and Blue Line subway stations
  • All underground Green Line stations and some street-level stops
  • Lynn and Worcester/Union Commuter Rail stations

Ticket agents located at select transit stations can help you buy or renew MBTA passes and tickets for the Commuter Rail and ferry. 

You can ask an agent to help you:

  • Buy single-ride, round trip, and monthly Commuter Rail passes for all zones
  • Buy single-ride, round trip, and monthly ferry passes
  • Buy reduced fare tickets
  • Renew your monthly Commuter Rail or Ferry pass

Retail Sales Locations

You can buy MBTA tickets and passes for all modes at retail sales locations around eastern Massachusetts and the Providence area. Conveniently located, sales representatives at these stores can issue and reload CharlieTickets and CharlieCards.

At retail sales locations, you can: 

  • Buy 1-day, 7-day, and monthly bus and subway passes
  • Buy single-ride, round trip, and monthly Commuter Rail passes (up to Zone 8)
  • Buy monthly ferry passes
  • Buy a CharlieTicket worth up to $100
  • Load up to $100 in cash value onto a CharlieCard
  • Renew your monthly pass for the bus, subway, ferry, and Commuter Rail (up to Zone 8)
  • Load cash value or monthly passes onto reduced fare Senior, TAP, and Youth Pass CharlieCards
  • Load cash value onto reduced fare Student CharlieCards
  • Buy reduced fare Commuter Rail tickets

The MBTA mTicket App

Download the mTicket App to buy a digital ticket or pass for the ferry and Commuter Rail. All purchases are made with a credit or debit card.

With the mTicket App, you can buy:

  • Single-ride, round trip, and 10-ride Commuter Rail passes
  • Single-ride, round trip, and 10-ride ferry passes

Online

On the MBTA’s CharlieCard website, you can:

  • Order monthly passes for the Commuter Rail, Express Bus, and ferry
  • Add cash value or monthly bus and subway passes to your CharlieCard*

*Please note, you can’t order a new monthly pass for the bus and subway online. You must already have a CharlieCard.
